Children Achieve Real Educational Success (CARES) Program at the RDLC
The CARES program is an intensive language-based, substantially separate classroom experience designed for students facing the challenges of Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD), including Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), and other severe disabilities marked by communication, social, and cognitive delays. We empower these learners by cultivating independence in communication, fostering social skills, and enhancing functional and academic abilities, ultimately working towards inclusion in the general education setting.
-
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Each student enrolled in the CARES program has a personalized IEP, tailored to address their unique strengths, challenges, and learning goals.
-
Communication Skills: The program places a strong emphasis on developing students' communication skills, which is fundamental to their overall growth and success in various settings.
-
Social Skills: Our educators teach and reinforce essential social skills, enabling students to build meaningful relationships with their peers, teachers, and family members.
-
Functional and Academic Development: Alongside communication and social skills, the CARES program supports students' progress in their functional and academic development.
-
Inclusion: We are committed to helping students in the CARES program transition to general education classrooms as they demonstrate readiness, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all learners.
The CARES program is made possible through the collaboration of our dedicated team of special educators, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, other related service providers, and, of course, students' families, with whom we maintain constant communication.
